Periodontology - Battle of Concepts - Bern Congress Organiser

Coronally Advanced Flap versus Tunnel for the Treatment of Mandibular Recessions

The aim of this one day interactive course is to present and critically discuss two different clinical concepts designed for predictable coverage of isolated and multiple mandibular gingival recessions, one of the most challenging endeavours in plastic-aesthetic periodontal surgery. While the use of the Coronally Advanced Flap and its variations are well documented in the literature, different modifications of the tunnel procedure, such as the Modified Coronally Advanced Tunnel (MCAT), the Laterally Closed Tunnel (LCT) or their combination have been also shown to result in successful outcomes, especially in anatomically difficult areas. The presentations will outline the rationale, the step-by-step procedure and the short and long-term results obtained with CAF, MCAT or LCT in isolated and multiple mandibular gingival recessions. Two live surgeries will directly demonstrate the clinical concepts, followed by a moderated interactive discussion. At the end of the day, the participants will understand the biologic rationale and the clinical indications for both surgical approaches being able to critically analyze various scenarios.
